WIMBLEDON CELTIC SUPPORTERS CLUB
How it was founded!

The club was founded in 1997/1998 by James McGibney and Mick O'Donnell, this is Jimmys story:

What happened was that Tony and Mark Millar, Bruce Molloy and I were drinking in the ex-servicemen's club in south Wimbledon, as a joke I put a £5 note on the counter, as we were drinking I said "lets form a Celtic supporters club".

Co-incidently, Mick O'Donnell, Pat Healy, Martin Gilsean and Pat Laughlin were starting a club in the broadway hotel, Mick came into the ex-servicemen's club and asked us to join their CSC. We told Mick that the broadway hotel was full of Chelsea fans, Mick then suggested we should join as one and that we should try the Irish club on Hartfield Road to see if they would let us use their function room. Jack Maguire, the then chairman of the Irish club said he would only be too happy to have us and we got going. Mick O'Donnell who was working in the bank at the time was given a good bonus, he decided he would put £2000 of his own money to start a bank account for the club. Bruce Molloy's father had club registration cards printed, Mick and I collected the cards from Mr Molloy's shop. We spent over two hours in the Raynes park Hotel filling them in, it was a pleasant surprise to see the number of cards submitted for registration. A short time later three so-called Celtic fans said that the club would not last more than 2 weeks, how wrong they were, the club is still going from strength to strength.

"The best £5 I ever spent, the rest is history"

That story from founder member James McGibney is a great one and hope it lives in all our memories for a long time to come.
